EXP-16 from $399
Universal Analog Input Multiplexer for DAS-8 and DAS-16
For IBM Compatibles

When you need to expand the functions of your DAS-8, DAS-16, DAS-800, DAS-1200, DAS-1400 and DAS-1600 boards, the EXP-16 universal expansion interface is the answer. Each EXP-16 concentrates 16 differential analog input channels into one analog output channel and also provides signal amplification, filtering and conditioning. The instrumentation amplifier provides use switch selectable gains plus user programming gain capability for special applications requiring specific gain. For ease of installation, all analog input connections are conveniently made on miniature screw connector strips. Thermocouple measurement are handled easily with the EXP-16. The board provides cold junction sensing and compensation. The EXP-16 can be connected directly to the data acquisition board, using a single ribbon cable. Additional EXP-16's can be cascaded to a total of 128 channels of standard voltage measurement, or 112 channels of thermocouple measurement. When used with a DAS board, channel selection is via the OP1-4 digital outputs of the board. If needed, the EXP-16 can be used with DVM's. The EXP-16 may be operated on just +5V power as a separate data acquisition building block. The PG408 DC/DC converter is required to provide +12V analog supplies and can be inserted onto the board for this application. It provides power without taxing the computer's power supply.

Gain Switch
The Gain Switch on each EXP-16 configures the entire board for the gain selected. Thermocouples of different types may be mixed on board providing they can operate with the same gain, otherwise separate EXP-16's should be used for maximum accuracy. The High Performance Instrumentation Amplifier is also suitable for use with strain gauges and other low lever transducers. A special "USER" Gain" is also provided for applications where a specific gain is required. Just insert the calculated resistor in the space marked "USER R" on the printed circuit board, and slide all switch toggles on the gain switch to the off position. "USER R" in ohms = 200.00/Gain Desired.

The largest Differential Analog input signal must always be considered when choosing the board gain.
